Insurtech UK Spring Conference
We recently hosted our May half-day conference at our partnersโ offices, Evelyn Partners. It was a day full of insightful discussions, connecting with friends old and new, and lots of great speaker sessions
First up, we had Alistair Nichol, Barnaby Redwood and Justine McInnes from Evelyn Partners discussing R&D and IPT - how our members can overcome some of the challenges of the revised R&D system and seek ways to reduce their IPT costs.
Then we had our London market modernisation panel, expertly chaired by Adrian Leonard. In this panel, we heard from Gilbert Harrap (CEO at InsurX), David King (Co-founder & Co-CEO at Artificial Labs) Gethin Jones (Executive Director at Skyline Partners) and Tom Allebone-Webb (Head of Strategy & Innovation at Lloyd's). The discussion was formed around how tech adoption in the London market remains a challenge, however there remains plenty of room for innovation. This is where insurtechs need to be extremely clear about the problem their tech is trying to solve. Wholesale replacement solutions are not the way to go - finding your niche is imperative and then look to scale.
Our third session of the day was hosted by Helene Oger-Zaher (Senior Manager from Financial Conduct Authority Innovation). She discussed the different sandboxes in place and how insurtechs can get involved with the FCA schemes. Insurtech UK will be looking to encourage further usage of these options up by members and also look to problem solve areas with the FCA that members come across.
The final session of the day was a fireside chat between David Hemmings from J.P. Morgan Payments, and ManyPets CEO and our very own co-Chair, Luisa Barile. They discussed Luisaโs journey from CFO to CEO, the changing investor landscape and how ManyPets has had to adapt but continued to grow to its unicorn status.
Our event was closed by Dame Susan Langley, Sheriff and Alderwoman at City of London Corporation. She left everyone in attendance inspired and excited for the next chapter of insurtech innovation in London, encouraged by the planned support outlined for insurance over the next 3 years.
Thanks again to everyone who attended, and to all of our speakers for taking the time to share their insights with us!
